In 2009, a new trendy Barbie doll was released and had many parents outraged. What was this new Barbie? She was “Totally Stylin” Tattoo Barbie. She came with over 40 tattoos that could be applied to either the doll or child. The Barbie was even equipped with a tattoo stamper, which looks similar to a tattoo gun. Some parents complained to Mattel citing that the doll was inappropriate for such young girls. Others viewed the doll as a sign of the times as the popularity of tattoos continues to grow. Mattel stated that the doll was a chance for young girls to express themselves. Either way the doll was a major hit and sold out of many stores where the doll was sold.
